Creative Commons launched their new fundraising campaign today on Revver! They’re the first nonprofit organization to raise money through online video sharing. They’ve uploaded a bunch of videos created by their supporters that explain how Creative Commons works, including the video above, by Ryan Junell.
As you know, we usually split revenue 50/50 but since we’re such big supporters of Creative Commons, we’ve agreed to give them 100% of the ad revenue from their videos until the end of the year.
Creative Commons is leading the charge in making the internet a better place for all of us by giving artists options regarding their copyright to encourage sharing and collaboration. Our culture is built upon the creative works of those that came before us and Creative Commons is working to ensure that we can all participate in making it.
So do what you can to help the campaign by sharing the videos as widely as possible. Blog them, digg them, email them and post them on your myspace page (use the QuickTime version on Myspace). Creative Commons is a real grassroots organization that requires grassroots efforts. So do your part. Pick your favorite of the 6 videos and share it with everyone you know!
In conjunction with the launch of the video fundraising campaign, Creative Commons also published this interview with Revver founder and CEO, Steven Starr. In it, he talks about Revver’s origins, its future, and his views on the current state of user-generated video. It just might be the most comprehensive interview with Steven that we’ve seen. It says a lot about who Revver is and what we’re trying to accomplish.
