You might have noticed on your profile page that there’s a little section where you can opt-in to broadcast and mobile distribution opportunities if you like. Well, now we’ve got some news on the first of these opporunities.
Under construction right now is a cable television channel in the UK called FameTV - the world’s first user-generated content television channel! FameTV is a new channel on the UK’s Sky Digital network. Unfortunately, we’re a little bummed stateside because the channel is only available in the UK – but for our UK users (our second largest geographic group besides Americans!) you lucky folks get to tune in and see if your video was selected to air!
Here’s how it works: If you’ve opted in to the Revver broadcast channel, you might be selected by the fine folks at FameTV to have your video broadcast on FameTV. Here’s where you make money: Every time a viewer votes on their favorite video via SMS, the viewer is charged a fee (if you voted for Taylor Hicks, you’ve done the same thing). Revver gets a portion of the revenue that that SMS vote generates. We split that revenue with you, 50/50, no surprises there. You still own your content, you can still share it with whoever you want, you are still in control.
This is Revver’s very first partnership in the broadcast space and we’re really excited about it. This channel is a great example of just how popular user-generated content is and we’re really excited about the chance to help you get your work seen more widely. This is just a taste of the kinds of cool new stuff we’re cooking up for you guys. If you haven’t opted in already, and you want to join in the fun, go to your profile and click “Opt in to broadcast distribution opportunities.”
Hey, UK users! Think you can TiVo it for us?
