New Member Agreement
You will notice that we updated our member agreement. You’ll need to agree to continue using the site. We know, it’s a long document. When you’re dealing with paying people cash money, there is a lot to consider. Anyway, we suggest you cut and paste the text into an easily-readable format and check it out. Here are some key points:
1. We outline in detail the types of content allowed on Revver. We do not allow copyright-infringing material on our site. Period. Nor do we allow pornography or obscene material. We are building a network that is safe for our community and our advertisers and that supports artists’ rights to protect their intellectual property and to profit from their work. While we review every video, you play a role in this too, and you take responsibility for ensuring all content you upload is your own.
2. We’ve updated the licensing terms. You retain all ownership of your video, granting us only the rights we need to attach advertising and tracking technology to your video and to share it on our network. In order to allow everyone else to share your video freely, we’re working with CreativeCommons to provide the default license for all videos on Revver, the Attritbution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 2.5 license. We have a nice, easy-to-read explanation of what all this means here. We’ll also be blogging more about this next week.
3. The new member agreement also notes the new option to share your videos through possible Mobile and Broadcast channels. We’re working to secure all sorts of distribution options for Revver content, including on mobile phones, television and Set-top Boxes. True to Revver form, we will always share any revenue from all distribution channels with our members. You can opt into these distribution opportunities on your profile page. More information coming on these opportunities as they develop…
We apologize for yet another update but we trust that you’ll find the new agreement to your liking. We welcome your feedback.

More about Andy:
Andy Gayton was born into a life of hardship and misfortune. Orphaned from the onset of his life due to his mother’s death in child-birth and his father’s conspicuous absence, Andy was meagerly provided for under the terms of the Poor Law. Thus, Andy spent the first nine years of his life within a branch-workhouse of the one in which he had the misfortune to be born. Along with other juvenile offenders against the poor-laws, Andy was brought up with little food and few comforts.

Video of the Day: Weird TV
There is so much strange and fascinating stuff out there, and I think we can all agree that weird is wonderful (right?). From the bizarre things you’ll find in an American hotel room to the new-age rhymings of a compost guru, weird TV is on the beat.
Revver welcomes Weird TV, and all other things weird too.
For more weirdness, check out their blog, Weird America.
Video of the Day: Keg of the Dead
This ain’t your normal frat party. Keg of the Dead is a short student film from the Academy of Arts, SF. The filmmakers looked at lots of video hosting services to power their website and finally chose Revver because of the playback quality and the level of control over their content. The artists told us a little bit about the filmmaking process:

Video of the Day: Self-Starting Salad
If salads could make themselves, the world would be a healthier place. Here’s to a healthy week!

Interestingly enough…
Hey there.
We’ve spent a lot of time and effort optimizing and refining Revver 1.0 in the weeks leading up to to launch. If you read this blog, you probably know that. You might not know the technical details, however - and the details are pretty exciting (to us):
The Ruby language and the Ruby on Rails framework has had quite a bit of attention lately. Revver 1.0 is built on Ruby on Rails — nothing like this has ever been done at this scale with Rails. We’re also using the Mongrel and lighttpd web servers, the Pound load balancer, and running it all off of an API we’ll fully open to the world in just a few months.
Speaking of that API.. it’s an implementation of the Twisted Python framework. Twisted is an event-driven networking framework that’s seen use in a lot of projects - for example, you may have heard of BitTorrent - of course there are many other interesting projects that use Twisted. Our implementation is notable given its heavy load - everything that the Revver site does is done through the API, from the moment you log in to the moment you fall asleep in front of your monitor after watching six hours’ worth of videos. That load is bound to increase, as we’ll be releasing the full API to the public at the end of October - everything the Revver site does, your site will be able to do. As a matter of fact, we’ll be giving you the code to Revver Classic as part of the SDK!
Those are the details, but here’s the short version: Revver runs on a chain of cutting-edge open source web technologies, each implemented at a significantly large scale, and we’re just about ready to share that power with anyone who wants to come to the party.
Video of the Day: Starbuks
Many of us pride ourselves on making sacrifices in the name of some lofty ideal. Me? I’m a vegetarian….with a soft-spot for shellfish and carnitas. Hey, it doesn’t always go as planned, but we try. And when we renege on our word, there’s always someone there to rub it in.
The ladies from Variety Shac are at it again with another spot-on cultural critique on failed corporate boycott attempts.
Magnify Networks
Magnify.net is a new site for collecting and sharing videos. You can create your own customized video site by syndicating videos from Revver, YouTube, Google, Yahoo, etc. This makes Magnify.net a Revver affiliate. So does that mean Magnify gets all the Revver affiliate fees? Well, it would, but Magnify believes in sharing their revenue with the people who are building the community. So they just announced that if you sign up for a Magnify account and start creating channels using Revver videos, you earn half of all the Revver affiliate fees. Magnify is currently in Beta and working on other ways to reward their members. Here is their blog post:
Earn money with Revver and Magnify.net:
We’re pleased to announce that starting today, Magnify.net site creators have a new way to share in the revenue generated by their site. (And additional revenue sharing options are in the development pipeline for future releases.)
The Revver Affiliate sharing features let you get paid for half of the syndication fee your site earns from advertising served by Revver. Unlike the Revver creator’s share, this syndication credit is applicable to all Revver videos posted to your site, regardless of who created them. (Plus, you’ll still earn your Revver creator’s share for any videos you did create.)
To activate this features, sign up with Revver, and note down your Revver affiliate number. Then visit your site, log in, choose “Site Admin”, “Account”, and then “Change advertising options”. Enter your account ID, and they’ll be used to earn you credit for half of all ads Revver delivers to your site.
Please take a look and let us know if you have any questions or suggestions… Your feedback is appreciated.
As noted in the blog post, if you are the creator of the video, you continue to earn the same amount you would anywhere else your video is syndicated. So this is good news not only for sharers of video, but for makers too! So go forth and spread viral videos…
One Web Day
Today is One Web Day!
The Web is worth celebrating.
OneWebDay is one day a year when we all - everyone around the physical globe - can celebrate the Web and what it means to us as individuals, organizations, and communities.
As with Earth Day - an inspiration and model for OneWebDay - it’s up to the celebrants to decide how to celebrate. We encourage all celebrations! Collaboration, connection, creativity, freedom.
By the end of the day, the Web should be just a little bit better than it was before, and we’ll be able to see our connection to it more clearly.
The One Web Day wiki offers lots of suggestions for how you can participate including:
- Make a mashup.
- Parents: get your kids to teach you to IM.
- Companies: run a virtual meeting for work-at-home employees.
- Upload and/or share a Revver video! (OK, that one’s mine.)
