It’s true. It’s on La Brea at CatchLight Studios. We’re fine with this since piers are usually just havens for bird poop and abandoned fish hooks. So come check it out on Thursday, August 28 at 7:00 pm. You won’t even need a tetanus shot.
You still have about a week to submit your best non-human video, so get on it! RSVP info and funnier post here.
We like it when someone uploads a nice looking video, but we really like it when someone uploads a whole chunk of nice looking videos. That’s what the Vancouver Film School did, and accordingly, we’re featuring their videos on the homepage. VFS is a bit different from your normal film school. Here’s how they describe it:
VFS has developed an entirely unique education curriculum. Our campus is your studio, your creativity is the lesson plan, and our facilities and faculty are here to assist the development of your projects through production to distribution. The school generates over 900 finished productions each year in everything you see, hear, and experience in the entertainment industry – more than any other school in the world. And to date, no school has been able to reliably compete with the high quality and inspiring quantity of our students’ in house productions.
We say, keep ‘em coming. Today’s video from VFS student Jae Hyun Lee is about innocence, coincidence, love, the wind, and crude pornographic drawings.
Thanks to everyone that came out last night for our comedy screening event - it was totally the best one yet! Thanks again to Elders of the Dark Tower (of Xoron) for their rad live performance (video coming soon) and to Ask A Chola for hosting (video also coming soon). Several people at the show suggested that a program of the videos we screened would have been welcome, and since we didn’t have the foresight to make one up before the event we’re doing one now. Here’s what we played:

If you’ve been paying close attention, you may have noticed these amazing clips floating around Revver during the last couple months. Photoshop and Cut&Paste co-sponsored a contest that asked designers to “compose an engaging animation or motion graphic video incorporating the Photoshop brand logo that illustrates the theme of “See What’s Possible.” Creators were given the choice of a few different video hosts. Well, the results are in, and we kind of kicked ass. The Grand Prize winner ($20,000!) above and the People’s Choice winner both chose Revver. We think it’s more than a coincidence. Congrats to the winners!
Just a reminder that the Revver Screening Series returns this Thursday, April 3. The event is from 7-10pm at the Goethe Institut here in LA (near LACMA), and will feature free food, booze, a screening of rad videos, and a live performance by LA sketch comedy group Elders of the Dark Tower of Xoron.
In association with our partnership with LiveUniverse, several Revver creators recently began publishing live shows on LiveVideo, LiveUniverse’s signature live broadcast portal. GameZombie, Black Nerd Comedy and Pansy Warrior Princess are all now doing live shows. Check out Black Nerd Comedy’s show tonight at 5 pm PST right here. He’ll be doing another show Thursday March 20 at 10 pm PST after Lost to talk about the show.
Want your own live show? Head over to LiveVideo.com and check it out.
The Revver Screening Series returns in April with our very first event featuring a live performance to celebrate our partnership with LiveVideo.com. Come join us for our usual program of rad videos, talented creators, and consumables (food, booze), and revel in the enhanced pleasure of a real, original, live performance by one of our favorite creators. Who's it gonna be? You tell us - check out the videos down below and vote for the creator you'd like to see perform.
The event will be held on Thursday, April 3 from 7:00-9:30 pm at the Goethe Institut in Los Angeles. The theme for this event is comedy, so after the performance we'll be showing some of our favorite comedy videos from the Revver library. If you have a video you'd like us to consider, send it our way by Monday, March 24. Space for the event is limited so if you plan to attend, please RSVP on our Eventbrite page.
OK, now for the good stuff. Here are the 5 contenders, vote at the bottom for the one you’d like to see perform live at the event:

Good Neighbor - Is My Roomate Gay? (it’s not a big deal, I just want to know):
Last year, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (responsible for the Daytime Emmys) honored web video for the first time. Not to be outdone, this year the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (note the lack of “national” in the title) is following suit and honoring broadband content (aka online video) at their 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards. One organization presents the Emmys for daytime TV, the other for primetime, but both now recognize online video as the future of television, which is great news for all of us. The first deadline for submissions is April 7 — find out more about rules and eligibility requirements here. Good luck to you all, getting an Emmy would be huge!
Everybody loves avocados, so this could be a pretty painless way to win $500. Hass Avocados from Mexico is about to launch a user-generated ad contest, and they need example videos for the “It Has To Be Hass Video Contest” site. They’ve decided to exclusively tap into Revver’s talent reservoir for said example videos, which means that one of you is going to be featured on the contest site and win the $500 prize. Specifics:
video must be no longer than 1 minute
file must be no larger than 10mb
recommended resolution of 320×240
video must be in one of the following formats: .mpeg (.mpg4), .avi, .mov or .wmv
all people depicted in the video must be 18 years of age or older.
avoid including any trademarked images in video (i.e. Nike Swoosh)
And now some pointers:
videos can be serious, funny, or informative.
bonus points for including Hass Avocado key messages (Key Messages: “Smooth & Creamy”; “Versatile”; “Easy to Use”) — rememer, this is an ad
videos don’t have to be fancy - have fun!
To submit your video for consideration, tag your video “revverhass” and upload it no later than Monday, Feb. 18 (midnight). The winning video will receive a $500 American Express gift card and will be featured on the “It has to be Hass” contest site for the duration of the contest. With owner permission, two additional videos will also be displayed as examples on the contest site - no prize. Here are some images you can use in your video:
If you’re in the masochistic business of making short films (see post below), you have until May 16 to submit one of your masterpieces to the 4th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival, taking place between August 7-10 here in Hollywood. Submissions must be 30 minutes or less, and categories include the gamut of familiar Best Ofs as well as a few additional honors like Best Future Filmmaker and Best Music Video. All films submitted for competition are also considered for participation in non-competitive categories of Opening Night Premieres, HollyShorts International Suite and the HollyShorts official closing event.
Hollyshorts has been showcasing quality short films through festivals and events since 2005, and most recently they partnered with us for our Revver Screening Series at the Goethe Institut. Thanks again to Theo and Daniel from Hollyshorts for their help with the event. For more info and how to submit visit HollyShorts.com.
